Join the Rotary Club of The Woodlands After-Hours monthly guest speaker meeting with Barbara Knighton, who will be discussing "When Life Redirects: Why Compassion and Community Matter" Barbara Knighton is currently a Family Leader and co-founder of the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (TSBVI) Family Lynx family organization (hybrid PTO/PTA). She is also a governor appointed council member for the Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities. Her son is 20 years old and is in the 18+ EXIT program. He has attended the school for 6 years. Joshua has multiple impairments aside from his low vision. He has been in the public special education system (Conroe ISD) since he was 8 months old. Barbara is an avid advocate for students being served by the special education system and for individuals with intellectual disabilities. She has been involved with family engagement for many years. Barbara enjoys connecting with families and helping them find the resources they need to assist and advocate for their students and to become involved in their communities and schools. Join us for a powerful and personal presentation from Barbara Knighton — Shell retiree, mother, full-time caregiver, and passionate advocate for children with special needs. In 2004, Barbara’s life changed forever when her son Joshua was born prematurely due to medical negligence. Forced into early retirement at just 31, she traded boardroom meetings for medical appointments and professional goals for survival strategies. What followed was a journey she never planned — one filled with financial hardship, emotional resilience, and tireless advocacy. Barbara will share the unspoken reality many families face when raising children with disabilities — the sacrifices made, the systems navigated, and the critical need for programs that provide a lifeline to stability and care. The Rotary Club of The Woodland would like to extend a special thank you to The Tournament Course for hosting this evening's event. Rotary After Hours relies on community support for meeting locations. Some locations require a minimum spend of $400 to $900 to use their space. Our meeting budget is $150 for appetizers and gratuity. We deeply appreciate businesses that waive their minimum spend requirements, allowing us to use their space. We encourage our attendees to support these businesses during our meetings and in their daily lives. Rotary After Hours of The Woodlands meets on the first and third Tuesdays of each month from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at various locations within The Woodlands. Guests are always welcome, and it is an excellent opportunity to meet like-minded individuals who believe in ‘Service Above Self.’

Join the Rotary Club of The Woodlands After-Hours monthly guest speaker meeting with Cameron Hunter, whose topic is "The Meaning of Hope." Restoration House of Houston addresses a crucial gap in services for homeless families by allowing couples with children to stay together while receiving support. Founder Cameron Hunter, who once experienced homelessness, understands these struggles firsthand. As Director of a family shelter, he saw how quick housing placements often led to relapse, as underlying issues remained unresolved. His vision for Restoration House is to provide long-term solutions that ensure stability and self-sufficiency. By addressing root causes and offering comprehensive support, the organization helps families break the cycle of homelessness, empowering them to become productive, engaged members of their community. Rotary After Hours relies on community support for meeting locations. While many venues require a minimum spend of $400 to $900, our available budget is only $150 for appetizers and gratuity. We are grateful to businesses that generously waive their minimum spend, making it possible for us to gather in their spaces. In return, we encourage attendees to support these businesses, both during our meetings and in their daily lives Rotary After Hours of The Woodlands meets on the first and third Tuesdays of each month from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at various locations within The Woodlands. Guests are always welcome, and it is an excellent opportunity to meet like-minded individuals who believe in ‘Service Above Self.’

The Meaning of Hope - Founder, President, CEO Restoration House of Houston
May 20, 2025 5:30 p.m.
Restoration House of Houston is uniquely positioned to address the critical gap in services for homeless couples with children in the Houston community — a gap largely due to the lack of options that allow families to stay together. This mission is driven by the vision and firsthand experience of its Founder, Cameron Hunter. After finding help through a local shelter, they not only acquired housing, but Mr. Hunter procured a carpet cleaning franchise, which led to their family purchasing their own home. Our visionary then became an Intake Worker and was later promoted to Director of the same family shelter where he and his family had formerly been clients. While serving as the Director, although his family was a benefactor to their services, he observed many shortcomings in the shelter system, some of which caused clients to become casualties of recidivism. Families were rushed through their shelter stay to get them into housing as quickly as possible. This process may appear beneficial, however, the issues which caused homelessness were not addressed, hence in many cases leading to a relapse into homelessness. The vision our Founder has brought to the Board of Directors is to not only address the issues which caused homelessness but also provide a long-term solution, not a short-term intervention, resulting in stability and enabling the family to become productive members of the community.

Your Health During the Summer with the Effects of Mosquito Sprays as Other Environmental Toxins
Jun. 17, 2025 5:30 p.m.
Sarah Lindley Bailey is a passionate wellness advocate, speaker, and founder of Salt and Soul Halotherapy in The Woodlands, Texas. With a background in advocacy for children’s health, medical freedom, and environmental justice, Sarah has testified before lawmakers and worked alongside families facing chronic illness and crisis. Her journey began after witnessing firsthand how environmental toxins—from mold to mosquito spray—were affecting vulnerable children and families, including her own community. This led her to open Salt and Soul, a peaceful wellness booth designed as a safe haven for natural respiratory relief, emotional restoration, and spiritual peace. Today, Sarah combines her personal experience, professional insight, and southern warmth to inspire others to pursue healing, protect their families, and create cleaner, more compassionate environments. |
