The Rotary Club of The Woodlands recently embarked on an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the towering San Jacinto Monument, a 567-foot marvel built between 1936 and 1939 to commemorate Texas independence.

Denton Florian, a Sam Houston historian and the mastermind behind the Emmy-winning documentary Sam Houston: American Statesman, Soldier, and Pioneer, led the event. Florian captivated attendees with snippets from his film, which chronicles Houston's extraordinary journey as a frontier legend, Texas president, and steadfast Unionist. The tour offered a unique blend of history and cinematic storytelling, bringing the legacy of Sam Houston and the monument to life.
