Have You Attended a Newbie Meeting?
The “Newbies Meeting” is our New Member Orientation which covers the Red Badge to Blue Badge process and how to pick the right committees for each new member.  It’s also a wonderful opportunity for our existing Committee Chairs to recruit new members onto their Committees and for existing members to meet our new members. Please come out to join us.

Polio Eradication Picture -A Bad Week!
Three new Wild Polio cases reported this week.

Eradication as a central part of World Immunization Week!  As we march ever closer to Our Goal of Global Polio Eradication, we remember our place in promoting routine immunizations which save millions of lives every year. Vaccination is one of the most successful and cost-effective health interventions. As we approach the end of the 2018-19 Be The Inspiration - Rotary Year, don't forget to make your donation to The Rotary Foundation's PolioPlus Fund!  It's easy

Pakistan's Polio Eradication Effort suffered a social media attack this week - with false rumors of children becoming sick after receiving the Oral Polio Vaccine.  These social media attacks spread an hysteria which resulted in 25,000 children being brought to hospitals and health centers.  Rotary's International PolioPlus Committee Chair, Mike McGovern reports that "Fortunately the Pakistan government responded forcefully and quickly" to dispel the rumors - but damage has been done.  Pakistan's Polio Eradication Chair, Aziz Memon, met with Pakistan's regional health officials in Peshawar yesterday to reassure them of the safety of the Oral Polio Vaccine and of Rotary's commitment to the eradication of Polio in Pakistan.

Vaccine Derived Polio Cases - Papua New Guinea, Kenya, SYRIA, SOMALIA, Niger, Nigeria, Mozambique, Indonesia, & DRC - Vaccine Derived Polio Cases reported in 2019 - 9:  Indonesia - 0 (0 in 2018).  Papua New Guinea - 0 (26 in 2018).  Nigeria - 7 (most recent paralysis 3/20/19) (34 in 2018)  Niger - 0 (10 in 2018).  Somalia - 1 (most recent paralysis 3/15/19  (13 in 2018).  DRC - 1 (most recent paralysis 2/8/19) (20 in 2018).  Mozambique - 0 - (1 in 2018)  One hundred and four Vaccine Derived Polio cases were reported in 2018.

Second Annual Crawfish Boil

2nd Annual Texas Legends Crawfish Boil- A  GREAT SUCCESS!
Tom Cox and his team pulled off another great event- in spite of the weather! Over 500 people had their fill of crawfish. The event netted $21,000 for the Texas Legends Scholarship Fund, which will award college scholarship s to students attending The Woodlands high schools.

Serving Our Seniors

Club Volunteers partnered with Interfaith of The Woodlands  on April 06, 2019 to help our Seniors by working for a day on community improvement projects. The  local high school Interact Clubs also participated in the effort. This was a fantastic opportunity to show our  support for our community and provide various services to local senior citizens in need of assistance.

An Evening of Elegance
Our Club held its "An Evening of Elegance!"  fund raising event on February 23 at The Woodlands Marriott.  As part of the event, we honored Michael and Vicki Richmond for their major contributions to our community throughout the past 35 plus years.
All proceeds benefited the Rotary House. Rotary House is a Non Profit focused on providing  patients from any of our five area Woodlands Hospitals a secure and affordable place to stay while seeking treatments. The Event netted $190,000  for this great cause. Once again, we wish to thank all of our Sponsors for helping to make this event such a big success.
