Join Us At Our Next Rotary Lunch Meeting.
Dear ,
We look forward to seeing you at our Thursday Lunch Meeting.
Guest Speaker: Matt Pizzo
Topic: Jefferson Davis' Mission to Europe: Hubris, Humbug or Invention of the Modern US Military
Matthew Pizzo is a nineteenth-century British historian and one of the foremost modern authorities on the Crimean War (1853-56). He served as Editor-in-Chief of the academic journal, The War Correspondent and served on the board of trustees of the Crimean War Trust in the United Kingdom.
Matthew was elected by his peers to the prestigious Royal Historical Society for distinction in service to the advancement of British history. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce, and has been elected to membership in the Royal Institution, and the Royal Society of St George.
Matthew’s love of history started with his own British ancestry: the Spencers/Churchills; and some of America’s original settlers (Austin and Rogers).
As a published author, Matthew was awarded a Kirkus Star for best young adult novel of 2008. Matthew is a former officer with the Department of Homeland Security and holds the distinction of being the youngest person in Los Angeles County history to hold public office (peaking at age 18!). He has served on charitable boards in both the United States and the United Kingdom and is presently developing a foundation dedicated to the preservation and digitization of primary and first-edition sources relating to the Crimean War.
