Rotary House of The Woodlands Texas
This page is under development.
Past-President, Julie Martineau came up with the idea for Rotary House - The Woodlands during the 2015-2016 year; and she and Past-President Clay McCollor, a local attorney, led the effort to bring it to reality during the 2016-2017 year. Thanks to these leaders and the committee that they established, Rotary House officially opened its doors during the 2017-2018 year, initially as two apartments off of Hwy 242 (Schucker, 2024).
Today Rotary House – The Woodlands provides rooms in the Homewood Suites, one block from the new Texas Children’s Hospital in The Woodlands. Through an agreement with the hotel, Rotary has access to three rooms (with a fourth as an option) for families who need a place to stay while their loved ones are being treated. We currently have a waiting list and are trying to accommodate as many families as possible. There is never a charge for the rooms; and Rotary reimburses the hotel for the daily maintenance. As of today, the Rotary Club of The Woodlands spends $100,000 - $125,000 per year in support of this vital service (Schucker, 2024).
Rotary House - The Woodlands was set up as a 501 (c)(3) Texas Non-Profit Corporation, and is a Community Service provided by The Rotary Club of The Woodlands to out-of-town families and patients receiving extended medical treatment in The Woodlands Area. Rotary House – The Woodlands currently serves patients of the five hospitals in The Woodlands as well as HCA Conroe Hospital (Schucker, 2024).
